1. And David spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:

2. And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;

The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. ;Ps 31.3

3. The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit. ;

4. I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

5. When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid;

6. The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me;

The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow. ;

7. In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.

This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. ;

8. Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was wroth.

LORD, when thou wentest out of Seir, when thou marchedst out of the field of Edom, the earth trembled, and the heavens dropped, the clouds also dropped water. ;Ps 77.18
The voice of thy thunder was in the heaven: the lightnings lightened the world: the earth trembled and shook. ;Ps 97.4
His lightnings enlightened the world: the earth saw, and trembled. ;Iov 26.11
The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof. ;

9. There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.

For our God is a consuming fire. ;

10. He bowed the heavens also, and came down; and darkness was under his feet.

Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence, ;Ex 20.21

Then spake Solomon, The LORD said that he would dwell in the thick darkness. ;Ps 97.2
Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne. ;
