1. In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.

Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Art thou not it that hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon? ;Ezec 29.3
Speak, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon that lieth in the midst of his rivers, which hath said, My river is mine own, and I have made it for myself. ;Ezec 32.2
Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say unto him, Thou art like a young lion of the nations, and thou art as a whale in the seas: and thou camest forth with thy rivers, and troubledst the waters with thy feet, and fouledst their rivers. ;

2. In that day sing ye unto her, A vineyard of red wine.
Isa 5.1
Now will I sing to my wellbeloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My wellbeloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill: ;Ps 80.8
Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it. ;Ier 2.21
Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me? ;

3. I the LORD do keep it; I will water it every moment: lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day.

Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. ;

4. Fury is not in me: who would set the briers and thorns against me in battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together.
2Sam 23.6
But the sons of Belial shall be all of them as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be taken with hands: ;Isa 9.18
For wickedness burneth as the fire: it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke. ;

5. Or let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; and he shall make peace with me.
Isa 25.4
For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall. ;Iov 22.21
Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee. ;

6. He shall cause them that come of Jacob to take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit.
Isa 37.31
And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward: ;Osea 14.5-6
I will be as the dew unto Israel: he shall grow as the lily, and cast forth his roots as Lebanon. ;

7. Hath he smitten him, as he smote those that smote him? or is he slain according to the slaughter of them that are slain by him?

8. In measure, when it shooteth forth, thou wilt debate with it: he stayeth his rough wind in the day of the east wind.

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. ;Ps 78.38
But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath. ;

9. By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged; and this is all the fruit to take away his sin; when he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder, the groves and images shall not stand up.

10. Yet the defenced city shall be desolate, and the habitation forsaken, and left like a wilderness: there shall the calf feed, and there shall he lie down, and consume the branches thereof.
Isa 17.2
The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid. ;Isa 32.14
Because the palaces shall be forsaken; the multitude of the city shall be left; the forts and towers shall be for dens for ever, a joy of wild asses, a pasture of flocks; ;
