1. The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah concerning the dearth.
2. Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof languish; they are black unto the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.
Ier 8.21
For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt; I am black; astonishment hath taken hold on me. ;1Sam 5.12
And the men that died not were smitten with the emerods: and the cry of the city went up to heaven. ;
3. And their nobles have sent their little ones to the waters: they came to the pits, and found no water; they returned with their vessels empty; they were ashamed and confounded, and covered their heads.
Ps 40.14
Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil. ;2Sam 15.30
And David went up by the ascent of mount Olivet, and wept as he went up, and had his head covered, and he went barefoot: and all the people that was with him covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up. ;
4. Because the ground is chapt, for there was no rain in the earth, the plowmen were ashamed, they covered their heads.
5. Yea, the hind also calved in the field, and forsook it, because there was no grass.
6. And the wild asses did stand in the high places, they snuffed up the wind like dragons; their eyes did fail, because there was no grass.
Ier 2.24
A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her. ;
7. O LORD, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou it for thy name's sake: for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against thee.
Ps 25.11
For thy name's sake, O LORD, pardon mine iniquity; for it is great. ;
8. O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turneth aside to tarry for a night?
Ier 17.13
O LORD, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters. ;
9. Why shouldest thou be as a man astonied, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet thou, O LORD, art in the midst of us, and we are called by thy name; leave us not.
Isa 59.1
Behold, the LORD's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: ;Ex 29.45-46
And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will be their God. ;Lev 26.11-12
And I set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you. ;
10. Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet, therefore the LORD doth not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.
Ier 2.23-25
How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways; ;Osea 8.13
They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; but the LORD accepteth them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt. ;Osea 9.9
They have deeply corrupted themselves, as in the days of Gibeah: therefore he will remember their iniquity, he will visit their sins. ;
