1. And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.
2. Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
Luc 7.18
And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things. ;Mat 14.3
For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife. ;
3. And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?
Gen 49.10

4. Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:
5. The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
Isa 29.18
And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness. ;Isa 35.4-6
Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you. ;Isa 42.7

7. And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
Luc 7.24
And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind? ;Efes 4.14
That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; ;
8. But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.
9. But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.
Mat 14.5
And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet. ;Mat 21.26
But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet. ;Luc 1.76
And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; ;Luc 7.26
But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet. ;
10. For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
Mal 3.1
Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the LORD, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts. ;Marc 1.2
As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. ;Luc 1.76
