1. And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, ;Luca 4.14
And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. ;SMS

2. Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.
Ex 34.28
And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments. ;1Imp 19.8
And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God. ;SMS

3. And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.

4. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
Deut 8.3
And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live. ;SMS

5. And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

6. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.

And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. ;SMS

7. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.

8. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

9. And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:

Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, ;SMS

10. For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:
Ps 91.11
For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. ;SMS
