1. Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
2. Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?
Iov 35.7
If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand? ;Ps 16.2
O my soul, thou hast said unto the LORD, Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to thee; ;Luc 17.10
So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do. ;
3. Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?
4. Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?
5. Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?
6. For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
Ex 22.26-27
If thou at all take thy neighbor's raiment to pledge, thou shalt deliver it unto him by that the sun goeth down: ;Deut 24.10
When thou dost lend thy brother any thing, thou shalt not go into his house to fetch his pledge. ;Iov 24.3-9
They drive away the ass of the fatherless, they take the widow's ox for a pledge. ;Ezec 18.12
Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination, ;
7. Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.
Iov 31.17
Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof; ;Deut 15.7
If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother: ;Isa 58.7
Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? ;Ezec 18.7-16
And hath not oppressed any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment; ;Mat 25.42
For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: ;
8. But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.
9. Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
Iov 31.21
If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate: ;Isa 10.2
To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless! ;Ezec 22.7
In thee have they set light by father and mother: in the midst of thee have they dealt by oppression with the stranger: in thee have they vexed the fatherless and the widow. ;
10. Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;
Iov 18.8-10
For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walketh upon a snare. ;Iov 19.6
Know now that God hath overthrown me, and hath compassed me with his net. ;
